You might remember that last May, Abby Wambach—the world’s all-time leading scorer in soccer—delivered the commencement address to the graduating class of Barnard College. It was a kick-ass, mind blowing, tear-evoking address that made you just want to stand up and cheer. As Abby spoke to the six hundred female graduates, she invoked the idea of the wolfpack, that women need to be united together to look out for each other—just like a pack of wolves—to demand equal pay, to be curious, to make trouble, to not be afraid, and to challenge the conventional wisdom that when you do “make it” you should just be grateful. I loved her departing words: “Surrounding you today is your wolf pack. Look around. Go ahead, you can do it. Don’t lose each other. Leave these sacred grounds united, storm the valleys together, and be our salvation.”
